Have you never seen the Season 1 finale? The one where Fluttershy ends up stomping around and screaming “YOU! ARE GOING! TO LOVE ME!!!”? It’s the exact same idea. The exact same kind of characterization that’s being employed.
 
I also think it’s a bit weird that you seem to have something keeping you from exploring the fandom’s roots. If it weren’t for 4chan going out of their way to go watch this new show that was supposed to be “the death of creator-driven animation” and finding that it was actually pretty good, all of the MLP fandom wouldn’t have happened. This is your history. This is where all of this came from. These are your roots. It’s good to have an understanding of the history of your passions and hobbies.
