Let’s see… who’s missing?
Inara’s missing, but that’s ‘cause she broke up with Mal.
Wash is… dead.
Book is… dead.
That’s everyone, then!

Nah you’re probably right there entirely - I think I was just mixing references in my head saying how Firefly was Star Wars for a new generation or something. I don’t know - I’m presently exhausted, I may have been in a similar state when I wrote that :P

I’m not sure about Angel, I based my guess on what I thought he was wearing but can’t really make it out, if I’m honest - not from the image above alone.
Spacefrog

Firefly is basically a western set in space - even more blatantly so than Star Wars.

I Would have to disagree there (not on firefly, but Star Wars)
Star Wars always struck me more as a standard fantasy fare,
I mean evil Sorcerer overlord, forgotten knightly orders, the farmers kid being the chosen one, saving the princess… It hits all the tropes

As for Angel I can’t really see if he is Simon or Shepard, although he shares hair/fur colour with Shepard.
He’s too well dressed for Wash.

Whitley already said that it was about CMC. Still, having him say that Fluttershy and CMC are the only ponies he cares about is a huge thing in this fandom where two ponies standing next to eachother is considered a shipping fuel. I still think that Smooze episode and Twilight’s Kingdom were a bigger thing that worked toward this ship but that just me.

It was at this point it occurred to me that maybe “the kids” he was referring to could be the CMC, not that it dilutes the shipping fuel by much.

Just to explain in depth to those not so up on the show:

Discord is playing Malcolm Reynolds, Captain of the Serenity and (primary) hero of the show. Fluttershy is Zoё, effectively second in command and Mal’s no-nonsense former comrade-in-arms from a war against the government which they ended up losing. During the course of the show they’re not rebels per se, in terms of the fact that they are not actively fighting the government, but they do operate considerably on the other side of the law. They’re ostensibly smugglers, but there’s a lot more to that.

In light of Fluttercord allusions, though Mal and Zoё are inseparable their relationship is professional only, as Zoё is married to “Wash”, the ship’s pilot, who I guess Angel is representing.

Apart from being dressed as Firefly characters, their behaviour doesn’t really reflect anything from the show and is entirely their own, except maybe Scoots/Jayne is the most antagonistic towards Mal (line from the film> Mal (during an argument with Jayne):You wanna run this ship??? Jayne: YES! Mal: …Well…you can’t!)
Also, Discord is employing some of Mal’s typical speech mannerisms.
Firefly is basically a western set in space - even more blatantly so than Star Wars. But its Joss Whedon so any doubts you have should be addressed there and then. :)

I think I’ve seen it on a channels such as Syfy here in the UK, relatively recently, but I’m not sure if that helps. I want to say “buy the DVDs, you will NOT be disappointed” but it would be nice if you could find a way into the show without such an investment.

I’m really delighted to see a Firefly reference. In regards to MidS’ point, I initially thought that Applebloom was dressed like Inara - who is, put very simply, a high-class prostitute - but on second thoughts I think it’s River. (Dress and army boots - either River or Rimmer from Red Dwarf…)

River is a psychologically damaged result of a secret government scheme. A natural savant, River is unwillingly experimented on in an attempt to turn her into a weapon. River is rescued by her brother (not pictured) and they travel with the crew in order to avoid recapture. What soon becomes established is that not only is River mentally unstable, she is also extremely deadly.

Buuuuut I wonder whether its particularly worse than Scoots as Jayne, who has probably ended many more people than River and is essentially a gun-for-hire - and a very big gun at that; he calls her “Vera”…

I don’t know.

Anyway, imo Firefly is more than worth watching, followed by the film Serenity. Just try not to let Fox’s actions ruin your day…

Evidently, Discord’s mind is less a enigmatic labyrinth and more some child flipping through TV channels.
MidS

Y’know, for those of us who actually understand the references here, Applebloom’s role is rather….inappropriate.
