Every. Time. And only until dawn.

@Whonk
Uh, guys. The tree was hollowed out. It wouldn’t say it was alive to begin with.
The difference: Scootaloo might be able to fly someday.
I feel like the sense of scale is ‘off’ somehow, so the ruins and restored libraries both look only slightly bigger than Twilight, to me.
Could be that I don’t recall that house on the left ever being near the real tree, so it all feels fake.
Or… if I’m wrong about that, then not sure what it is.
“1. Solution: turn back time for the tree until it unexplodes. Same tree, same materials, just a few hours younger than it would have been”
And how would you bring it intact to the present?
And you think it’s possible to turn back time and yank the treehouse from the past back into the present because…?
@Background Pony #7D7B
“It technically would be a different tree even if it was identical down to the last detail!”
Yeah, exactly. Turning back in time is the only way I can see the living Tree back. Anything else would just replace it with a copy.
wait it was just a dream
It’s never coming back is it
@Whonk
Unless someone can turn back time, there’s no way to bring back Golden Oaks Library; at best, one could hope to replace it with an identical copy.
Who are you talking about? Who’s upset?
In the DREAM.

We were just discussing how bringing back the tree with magic might not even be possible, so I wouldn’t say it’s a plot hole.
@Joshua
Yeah, the writers really should have just had the magic box plat itself in the library ruins so there wouldn’t be a “Why can’t the Mane 6 just make Discord poof the library back to normal?” plothole. But I guess they were too busy trying to write an episode with as many plotholes as possible to care at that point.
ignore the “there’s”.
Regardless of the undefined limits. I think the the first law of Thermodynamics still apply. There’s
Or it’s a really REALLY bad idea. She could do it, but it might wind up a zombie timberwolf or something. Or like, reconstructing it by magically accelerating new tree growth, but it runs the risk of exploding (like Apple Bloom’s apple) or continuing to grow out of control and becoming a new section of the Everfree.
Then how do you explain phoenixes?
There’s that too. The tree was alive, and I’m pretty sure bringing something organic and alive back from ashes is beyond even magic.
IIRC, the only repair magic we’ve seen are when Twilight fixed the dam in MMDW, and when Rarity fixed the wheel in RTM. Both of those were examples of fracture type damage; we haven’t seen anything that can fix burn damage, let alone on something that might have been alive.
