Of course, me taking the time to post this sort of stuff won’t stop people (and not necessarily just the shippers, either) from losing their minds over what’s ultimately going to be subjectively interpreted, so whatever.

Something that is interpreted as shipping fuel by some fans doesn’t make a ship canon, though. You’re overreacting, and so are the shippers who are running around making claims that it’s canon.
 
Unless we get some sort of actual confirmation, instead of stuff that only promotes confirmation bias, this kind of stuff is open to interpretation. As in, you can still interpret them as friends, and the people who ship them can interpret them as being in a relationship.
 
There certainly is no canon answer to it. The writers taking the time to create scenes with two popular background ponies that were often paired as either friends or lovers in fanon doesn’t change that.
