Maybe she let them win, for some reason or another, and is sort of disappointed because she knows she could totally destroy them, but can’t, probably because she’s trying to stall something?

I’m betting that they’ll both reach a hard part of the equation, and Sunset will get encouragement from her friends that gives her the motivation to get through it while Twilight either gets nothing or something negative from her side that slows her down and prevents her from solving it before Sunset.

Here i think we know for sure. Twilight does want friends. But shes been rejected so many times, she’s givin up on ever having any. Seeing the girls happy is making her wish she had the same.

I guess the fanbase would happily accept the fact that Sunset is smarter than Twilight, but God forbids her to be faster than Rainbow Dash, better designer than Rarity, or better party planner than Pinkie Pie…

Is that Sunset Shimmer winning math contest versus Twilight? If that’s so, I can say for sure Sunset’s mary-sueness skyrocketed even more in this movie.

Poor Sci-Twi… I’m sure things will be happier for her by movie’s end, though.
 
Also, calling it now, a future EqG movie is going to involve Sci-Twi bringing Human Sunset in from the cold. :)
