Sort of off topic but as an outsider, I was shocked to hear that homosexuality was only legalised in the states in ‘03.  
In France of course, it’s been legal for about 300 years xD

Too many people in this fandom either don’t understand the difference between fanon/headcanon and canon, or (more likely) assume other people don’t and go ballistic when those other people are messing around.
 
Is Lyra×Bon canon? Of course not. Lesbian ships will never be canon in this show, because Hasbro is (justifiably) afraid of the right-wing soccer moms who, though they are a shrinking minority, still make up the majority of Hasbro’s actual customers… and who, more importantly, have disproportionate influence on the media.
 
Homosexuality may be becoming more accepted in the USA (note that Hasbro is headquartered in a state with rather strong GLBT protections), but there’s still knuckle-draggers out there - mostly in the South, Great Plains, and Congress - who aren’t afraid to raise a stink if something “for children” isn’t rooted in the so-called Values™ of the 1950’s.
 
That said, I’ve always believed that part of the joy of being a fan is having the ability to take an established canon and say “to hell with that” and do what I want on my own time. If you want to keep your headcanons strictly in line with what the creators have revealed, more power to you, but I don’t have to. I do ship it. Because I find it fun.

If you want to ship them in the privacy of your own dark room, fine, but don’t try to convince is that there is something under because you want your ship to be canon, because there isn’t.

I think the show staff are even in on the joke, possibly knowing some fans shipped them and throw in a few jokes involving it knowing some will catch the joke with others would not. They to consider what I joke my be.
