Why do you think Twilight’s “Alicorn Magic” looks just the same as Sombra’s Dark Magics? Why do you think the Alicorn Amulets twists its bearers into madness and evil?
 
If it were not for Starswirl’s use of a reformation spell, Equestria would have fallen long, long ago. That’s why he ended up working so closely with the Princesses and overseeing their development. He had to make sure the spell would hold and that their true selves would never emerge again. Their new minds would have to be directed towards positive endeavors, and that responsibility was his.
