No more disparate than mashing people and planes. It was a natural follow-on after MLP became a thing.
It just seems like such a disparate set of interests to mash together.
And more than a decade before that,
I’d have to disagree. Ponies are nice and all, but they don’t automatically invalidate the originals.
It really all depends on the artist though. Walter Sache for example did some really good ones.

The original anthro stuff is horrifying though, but ponies here are making everything 200% cuter.
Anthro planes were already a thing for a long time, then when MLP rolled around it introduced the whole MUST PONIFY EVERYTHING!!1 and now we have this.
Not that I’m complaining, this is still nice.
