Dude, you’re being way too harsh on Starlight. Just from her personality and actions alone it seems like it’s going to build up to one of those “tragic past” and “misunderstanding” villian type.
 
Starlight’s goal was to make ponies equal, she said its the “true way to friendship and harmony”. That alone pretty much says it all. Whatever reason that cause her to go down that road most likely will be revealed when she makes a return.

Sunset is still one of the best Villains, she did Tirek/Discord level work when she had no magic, was clearly redeemable from the start and it makes sense she was forgiven since she wasn’t in her right state of mind when she did anything actually evil,
 
And Starlight is not Twi’s equal she has one cheap trick that caught twi off guard but the second they fought Twi showed that starlight was way out of her league,
 
i really do hope they make Starlight the freeza of the show and either have twi take away her cutiemark or send her to tartarus, she is no better then Sombra who was out right killed so it would be nice to see her at least permanently dealt with,

To me, Starlight is closer to what Sunset Shimmer should have been. An otherwise normal unicorn who is evil and power-hungry with a twisted idea of friendship and harmony in and of themselves (no outside influences affecting their morality), and is magically powerful enough to give Twilight a run for her money.
 
Sunset had the potential to be the best villain in the show, but it was wasted. Starlight, though… she might just be able to make use of some pieces of Sunset’s unused potential. I’m very hopeful.

Define “better”. As a villain Starlight is a better character than Trixie because she is more evil and competent, as a character unfortunately I think that Starlight is still too forgetable, this might change with her next posible appereance though.

She is sincerely reformed in the Comics.

The only thing they have in common is that they had their plans foiled by twilight and her friends. Actually we don’t even know if Trixie is now reformed since her second appearance.

Trixie is a character that we will always see, she is like Team Rocket now. :P

I don’t think so, Trixie was never a real villain under her own initiative, It was either the amulet or Dazzlings that made her willing to behave beyond slightly brash and self centered, Starlight is only less evil then Sombra because she lacked his ability to inflict her cruelty on a larger scale,

And then Trixie bursts in wielding a sword.
 
Trix: There can be only one!

…at least until the next villain of the month comes along.
