*gasp* EVEN MORE SCANDAL!

…You’d think something like that would be a little more noticeable. Must be the textureless world the ponies live in.

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

Yeah, I noticed that. She seemed so steadfastly incapable of just ADMITTING she was pure evil. It’s clear she enjoys being in control of ponies, yet even when backed against the wall and put in a position where it’s clear that everyone has turned on her and isn’t coming back, she just couldn’t make herself admit that she was doing all of this for power. She either had to rationalize or run away.

It makes her probably the most realistic villain this show has ever done.

Yeah, I’m agreeing with you there. That’s something you wouldn’t say out loud to an enemy.

It actually reminds me of ‘This Day Aria’ in a way. With how the villain was saying/singing something in clear vicinity of a potential listener.

No, the bit where she’s walking away from them after telling Double Diamond to see to their every need. She says:

“Well, this will certainly provide a boost to our little community. When the rest of Equestria sees that a princess gave up her cutie mark to join us, they’ll finally understand what we’re trying to accomplish.”

If you mean during the song bit, she’s only like, a few feet away from the group, and while shows do often have it that if your not within huddle distance of someone, you can speak with only a mild attempt to not yelling and that’ll work, it just as often subverts that on how useless that is at stopping people from not hearing you.

I think she could be both power hungry AND believing that what she said was true.

Earlier in the episode she walks off while speaking to herself that Equestria will “finally understand what WE’RE trying to accomplish”. No one else was around, yet she still referred to her plan while including the entire town. So it could be that she wanted power and she wants to be in control, but she’s also rationalized it in her own head that this is what everypony genuinely wants as well.

There’s just something about the way she acted when her masquerade broke that just spoke to me that she was only power hungry, and only bullshitting as a last attempt to keep people on her side, and because admitting your wrong is hard, not that she genuinely thought she was in the right.

Actually, I think Starlight Glimmer sincerely believes in what she’s doing. She’s just rationalized keeping her cutie mark because without it, she wouldn’t be able to bring about the utopia she’s dreaming of.

That, of course, makes her even more insane and dangerous.
