Chinese food in the US in general reall. It’s been altered over the years to suit american taste so much that it very noticably different from traditional chinese cuisine.

If you want authentic Chinese food in the states you have to find a specialty restaurant, though I’ve heard that some American Chinese Restaurants have a secret menu much more in line with traditional Chinese Cuisine for Chinese immigrants and the like.

Key phrase there was “seen as”. A lot of regional or popular dishes in the US come from some other part of the world.

Even hot dog buns, if they were invented in the US, is claimed to have been created by German immigrants.

Couple Other examples:

Country Fried Steak, A Southern US dish based on German Schnitzel.
Pizza, A very popular food in America from Italy.
Chili, from Mexico.

Well, yeh sausages were invented in Europe, but there’s some evidence that the idea of putting sausages on a bun was invented in the US in late 1800s.

Even if it isn’t true. Hot dogs tend to be seen as one of those classic american foods like the cheeseburger or applepie.
