Actually, I figure it as being less superiority and more a matter of having created them to inherit the Earth after a mass exodus.
Essentially, due to cataclysm, the Earth was rendered inert and humanity had to flee the planet, but not before creating a genetically engineered race of stewards.
Numerous iterations of the experiments persisted after the humans didn’t have the heart to terminate them. Tirek, Discord, the Wendigos, all creatures capable of great psychic feats. But the apex of their trial and error experimentation was the Alicorn sisters, who served as the base template from which three distinct species spawned.
Their task? Heal the world while humanity, wiser for the experience, looked for a home elsewhere.
yeah i thought of this too, and double the validity of that headcannon:
they’re kept secret in a laboratory, working with scientists trying to explain paranormal activity.
the unicorns have predicted the dawn of mankind, and that they would bear the task of rebuilding the civilization after an imminent world war.
during a meeting with the two alicorns, very influent humans explains that after such a cataclysm, it would be indeed better that mankind remains under 500 million individuals, and request some additional advice, making the alicorns laugh.
“Fools. You’ll just exterminate eachother to the last one. In fact, you’re already extinct as you engraved your own fate on the stone. Hiding underground during decades won’t save you.”
About a few centuries later, as the remaining traces of what used to be cities and buildings are being erased by nature, the Equestrian Empire rises out of the chaos.
“There was a sibling, in case this one did not survive infancy…”
“Where is the sibling?”
“She sent it to the moon…”
AND THAT’S HOW EQUESTRIA WAS MADE!

I guess you are right, it was my nostalgia talking (about jurasic park needed of a new audiences).
And about that 90´s show… I remember the last joke of the first episode, where they were thinking of they token food: “pizza? Nah, too seen. Lets go for hamburgers!!”
And I stoped watching it.
The Humanity playing god thing would be the…moral or aesop of the story while the dinosaurs were the plot device that gave that idea context…or something like that. The thing is most people don’t see what isn’t right in front of their face and the dinosaurs are upfront while the moral/aesop is in the background.
That being said, I actually like the idea of them creating a new dinosaur to draw in a new audience…the management of Jurassic Park that is.

That was actually done already. Some time in distant and mysterious years of the 1990’s there was a show or toy line featuring genetically modified sharks that walked on land and fought crime…or something like that.
You do realize the Jurassic Park franchise isn’t just about dinosaurs right? The dinosaurs are merely the icing on the cake. The franchise is all about humanity trying to play God (be it for good intentions or not) and paying the consequences.
