First scan of many, hopefully.
I’d like to state now, I am not a particularly great artist. I know this. I’m much better at writing, or so I believe. But sometimes, the literary element simply doesn’t work quite as well as images would, and I don’t have the money to commission anybody.
So, I’m going to learn. And it’s probably gonna suck.

I also use graph paper, for the most part. It’s easiest to get some of the proportions right using it, such as the head, chest, rear, and hooves. If I can get those right, it’s mostly just a matter of drawing the lines between them, for now.
And, if I copied down someone else’s reference sheet, I’d start building off their style. I’m kind of curious as to where I can go with this interpretation. I’d even go so far as to call this my own style.
Why not try copying a reference?
Find a good one and jot down notes and your own version of an existing sketch.
At school, you’ll be able to refer to it.
I do most of my writing/drawing at school, or at other places without internet, and I wanted to make my own references. I’m resolute in the belief that nearly any skill can be picked up if you work at it long enough, and therefore, if I keep at it, my art will get better.
