Actually, in pushing the wizard against the throne, the crystal throne shattered, embedding jewel shards into the eyes of the blinded ponies to allow them to see… Thus creating the crystal eyed ponies. Further, the crystal eyed ponies thought that with crystal shards embedded into their eyes, they were now such freaks they hid from the rest of the ponies in the very caves they were slaves in until re-found by Applejack who then slowly intergrated the stockholm syndrome-suffering ponies back into pony society.
 
And yes, this is all Hasbro canon.

G1 Applejack defeated an evil wizard by “accidentally” knocking against his throne and pushing him into the center of the earth.
 
Thus saving all the Twinkle-eye’d ponies.
