Well, for one thing, she didn’t become reduced to staying to the sidelines while the others do all the work when something big occurs. Just look at her battle with Tirek! The only time she stood down and let him absorb all the magic within her was when she realizes that he has her friends hostage.
 
Secondly, there were moments where she was given initiative and she gives judgment on what to do, like how she made Rainbow Dash’s trade null and void in Trade Ya! or how she gives orders the Royal Guards to find Celestia and Luna in the Princess Twilight two-parter. If her rights were really sent back a couple of centuries, she wouldn’t even be given a word in any of those situations.
