Oh I’ve been imagining a similar situation.
Let’s pretend that the release date for the movie is in September of 2017. Around a few months prior we get a trailer and it would show that it’s the exact kind of pony movie we’ve wanted, showing sequences of exciting action, adventure, drama, etc, and would have an interesting villain. Plus, it has even better quality animation than the TV show. It would be the ultimate dream come true for fans of MLP.
Then a few days before the movie hits theaters, it is announced that the movie would be pushed back to Christmas of 2017, with Hasbro thinking the movie would make more money at that time. Then a few days before that, they’d push it back AGAIN to the summer of 2018 because of Avatar 2.
Once the summer does come, there have been no announcements of it being released in theaters. A while later after concerns about the movie, Hasbro announces that due to uncertain expectations of the movie, they started to start the movie project over from scratch, the worst part being that they haven’t even announced it after a few months after that happening. A year later or so we get another movie trailer, and it’d be exactly what you mentioned.
Action! Explosions! Things!
Inb4 live action movie with the ponies getting 10% of the screen time, if you can even tell them apart from the shaky camera.
I, for one, prefer the new logo to the old. For one thing, the globe has CLOUDS this time around. But I digress.
If they were to use the 1997 logo as a variation, however, it would probably look something like this:
OK, but they should at least use:
Dubious.
As I said before, I blame the failure of the G1 movie for that, even though it WAS nearly thirty years ago.
I’m not saying the show writers couldn’t pull of a feature-length movie and have it be as interesting as the show; hell, I’m sure they could. But the suits at Hasbro have apparently decided that EQG is a better money-maker in the theater and DVD market than an actual pony movie would be. Not much you or I could do to change that.
Hasbro made a deal with Universal after Battleship.
>Universal 2012 logo
>Universal logo
>Universal… HOW COME IT’S NOT WARNER BROS!?
Again, I disagree. I doubt they’d do anything in a movie they haven’t done already in the show.
@Jarkes
This. The more recent EG dolls look a little better than the old ones, and they were never quite as gross as the MH toys. But, they’re all pretty lame. If you compare the animated versions on the other hand, you’ll see a huge difference.
Nah. I’ll admit that the EQG toys do look pretty bad, but Monster High is still worse. And the EQG designs don’t look too bad in animated form.
Have you SEEN the toys? They look exactly like the Monster High dolls!
Yeah, I kind of agree with you there. Even the Rainbow Rocks designs aren’t NEARLY as bad as Monster High.
Equestria Girls’ cast portrays cartoonish proportions, and we can’t have that, can we? Come on people. If they were as gaudy as those Monster High characters that some compulsively compare them to, I could understand, but that just isn’t the case.
@VoltraTheLively
Debatable.
Naturally. You’d think that would be more clear on a site dedicated to a kid’s show.
Plus, just because something’s aimed at little kids doesn’t mean it can’t be epic and occasionally get dark. See: approx. 80% of Disney’s total output in their entire existence.
Maybe not, but that tends to be what I see people complain about the most. I personally warmed up to the designs eventually, though there is no way I can possibly defend the designs of the toys.
And the normal show fails to do that because…? It’s the same writiers, they know what they’re doing.
You do know that adults are not the target audience of the Equestria Girls movies, right? Hell, neither are little kids, the target audience of the actual show.
EQG is aimed at tween girls “too old” for movies about ponies. If you want an actual pony movie, it’ll have to be aimed at little kids, and you’d better cross your fingers and hope the writers are clever enough to remember to include some adult jokes to keep the parents in the theater from being bored to tears.
