If man loses his sense of adventure and the wide eyed fascination of learning about his universe then we are truly doomed to stagnation and pettiness.
 
The truth is funded research from NASA and even purely theoretical finding from science in general has long since broken through to practical applications.
 
This is a landmark achievement and an important moment for the entire human race if for no other reason than to keep our fascination with learning more about the universe around alive.

Since the Beginning -

The landing helped to prove that the landing tech is fully operational and working properly so the same can be repeated for transport of larger equipment (and maybe people) there eventually. Science doesn’t make quick progress like that in a day, it takes time. Besides, with that attitude we’ll never get off this rock. Besides Mars, there are other planets/moons that could be colonized. Like the Moons Europa, Ganymede and Titan. They all have good resources.

“Future data”? What, more data on the fact everything is made out of fucking rock/ice? Let’s face it, we went to space, big whoop. Now what? There’s nothing to be gained from space, we’ll collapse under our own weight and implode long before the unlikely event of there being a inhabitable planet and us finding it.

Same here Jack, I even called my brother in from across the hall when word of successful touchdown came through … he stared at me then walked out … prob cause it was about 2 am but still … i woke up my house and probably a few neighbors with me and my friends cheers
