The only reason they had Tirek blow up the library was because they wanted to create a gaudy palace in the middle of Ponyville.
In fact the scene didn’t even make any sense.

Why would Tirek want to blow up the person that had all the magic he wanted? It was complete and utter nonsense. Tirek already had the hostages, trying to fight and destroy Twilight was a lose-lose situation. Either blow up the person you are trying to absorb, or risk getting killed by the power of 4 princesses. And he wasn’t trying to knock her out, all those attacks were lethal force. Hell, it they wanted to have a fight scene, and they wanted an excuse to make Twilight angry, they could of made Tirek tell Twilight he sealed Celestia away in Tartarus and get the same result of anger, Twilight attacks, and Tirek in his wrath decides to try and pummul Twilight into submission before using his hostages. But no, Tirek decides to blow up Twilight the very moment he sees her. Not even a shred of common sense to be found, and I mean in the writing, not just in Tirek.

Even further, the castle just appearing out of nowhere is even more insulting to golden oaks library. It gets demolished? Do they have any seconds to reflect on that after Tirek is defeated? Whether they should build a new library for Twilight in memory of the old one? Nope, its tossed to the side like trash now that they have a bright shiny castle Hasbro the Rainbow Power conveniently wants to give Twilight. Now THAT’S depressing.

Now, all arguments about the new palace in Ponyville being just another Hasbro product placement to springboard more toy sales aside… how depressing would an episode named “Twilight’s Kingdom” have been had it ended without a new home for her?

Just a burned library. Her kingdom.
@Lokizade
Oh the difference in origin is obvious, but its almost no different in tackiness. It wasn’t just ‘getting a new one’, its just putting a Crystal Kingdom-like Treehouse in the middle of Ponyville, renaming Ponyville the Rainbow Kingdom (or Twilight’s Kingdom) or some such nonsense, and expecting us to believe everything is normal for the rest of the episodes. :/

In terms of writing, it makes no sense. We might get more ignorance episodes that can be good or bad but they still make no sense like Rarity Takes Manehatten and Rainbow Falls.

No, because in that case the things Rarity did were bordering on harming others, and were generally things they didn’t want or require, it got extremely excessive, in this case, Twilight’s home was destroyed and she received a new one after defeating the guy responsible.

IIRC, one of the writers said that they’re doing an episode about the tree for S5, guess we’ll see what happens with that, I like the new place a lot too but to each their own.
