I’ll level with you. I actively like shipping 90 percent of the time, personally. I find it adorable, sometimes surprising and it’s just fun to think about. I also of course appreciate a good ol’ fashioned friendship picture, but, and feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, but it sounds like you feel there are too many shippers and not enough ‘platonics’(?). If so, I’d say this. Each person who makes a shipping comment does so because they want to express their thoughts on something that isn’t concrete. Those same people could see 100’s of pictures of adorable pony stuff and not post anything beyond, ‘cute!’, because there’s no point. There established friends doing friend stuff. There’s no headcanon, no maybes or mystery of possibility. It’s the potential to explore how we think characters could act in certain situations given the chance. So, when given the chance, they’re more likely to voice it. But they could enjoy the platonic stuff just as much, depends on the person, they just don’t vocalize it :)
Yeah, but I don’t know, it just makes it seem like the fanbase is a li’l to hung-up on ’shipping sometimes. (No offense to ‘shippers.) I’ve seen people make ‘shippy remarks on pics that weren’t meant to be ‘shippy at all, and I remember one artist on DA requested people stop giving her requests to put a picture of a platonic Twilight & Pinkie to be put in ‘shipper clubs. (Because it wasn’t meant to be ‘shippy.) It’s like some see ‘shipping where there isn’t, and such, or get to obsessed with it.
I mean I can understand it can be fun for some people, (I’ll even admit some ‘shippy pics are well drawn, and I faved a few) and you can ‘ship all you want, but I just don’t think every character has to smooch every other character.
I’m overall kinda neutral with ’shipping, or a somewhat of a non-‘shipper overall. It’s getting hard to find other fans like that.
They are, but the show has enough of that. The fanon explores what the show hasn’t, can’t or shouldn’t. Shipping characters romantically is talked about a lot because it’s only there where it can be talked about.
I understand, ’shippers can have their fun, I just prefer the “Mane 6” as just friends with each other. Just my preference. I just wish fans would be open to platonic relationships, or platonic “friendshipping,” as well.
They are undoubtedly platonic friends in canon. However, the truth shan’t prevent shipping.
…Though, there’s some of us who don’t want to “EF” our friends, and/or everything that moves.
I honestly don’t see why Rarity & Applejack can’t be platonic friends.
Sometimes you just have a friend you’d like to FUCK and thats as far as it goes.
Yeah. Kilala97’s epic-level-cute Sparity artwork is pretty much the only reason I’m not 100% throwing myself into the Good Ship Rarijack.
Because, gosh darn it, Spike would make a GREAT father!
Eh, to be honest, I’d rather not any fanon pairings become canon. I’m honestly in the camp that wants the “Mane 6” to just “remain platonic friends.”
Appledash, Twinkie, Rarijack, none of them work.
But I understand that may never happen for obvious reasons, and if it did, I’d understand that many people would be unhappy about it.
Agreed.
