If “Opposite” then obviously there is good exceptions… Othervise it’s not opposite from “Good with jerk exceptions”.
As bad as it sounds, in that case Twilight’s probably done the little guy a favour.
So far, dragons in show was childish (Dragonshy, Dragon Quest). And one feral (or just mad) (owl’s well that ends well).
I don’t follow. Who should be blamed if a characater is suddenly acting completely out-of-character, if not the writer?
And to steer it back on topic for Background Pony, Spike’s only interactions with dragons in his peer group was in Dragon Quest. They were shown to behave like a typical group of bad-boy teenagers. Are all dragons like that? Or just that group? Since we have so little to go by you can’t really argue for or against the idea that Spike can’t relate to dragons. Maybe there’s plenty of decent dragons out there that he’d relate to just fine.
We do know that dragons get greedy, especially as they age. Spike feels that as well but he suppresses it (though I find the idea that dragons grow exponentially fast as they acquire a treasure horde, independently of age, to be absurd).
So anyway, insufficient evidence, your honor.
There is two approaches:
1) Black Box (Watsonian, in-universe)
2) White Box (Doylist, out-of-universe)
Neither is better, it’s just two different approaches.
But I think 2 is easy way out. Why X? Because writer! Why Y? Because writer again!
They have a point; don’t blame the writers if how you think a character was to be portrayed should have been different.
SaYS is over-hated IMO, but it in general was a clusterfuck during its production from what I’ve heard. Polsky got better in S4, especially with Spike.
Bats! is probably my least favorite episode of S4, and Wonderbolts Academy required heavily on Spitfire being heavy-hoofed and of course Lightning Dust being an asshole.

Someone writes it.
You don’t think the writers’ biases and tendencies have any bearing on the in-universe fiction?
Well she wrote Hearth’s Warming Eve, Wonderbolts Academy, and Bats!… So not all bad. Putting Your Hoof Down and Dragon Quest I thought were a little heavy-handed, but not bad.
Spike At Your Service though–if there was any real evidence for spikeabuse, that would be it. Premise is fine, characterization of Spike was truly awful. I won’t even mention MMDW. Oh wait I just did.
Indeed, at least she seems to have moved on from the series.
@cheezedoodle
Same.
(besides Spike, of course)
What a pity.
To be fair, it was a Merriwether Williams episode and that’s just her writing style.
Yes. And Spike’s not a jerk like seems to be normal for the rest of his species.
Every dragon he’s run into has been a jerk.
But blame his parents rendering him incapable of being unable to relate to other dragons.
