For the Mash movie (which it’s from), they needed to have the song with the worst lyrics ever. They asked a 14-year-old kid with no music training to write it, and gave him only five minutes to do it.
But despite the dreariness of the lyrics, the melancholy theme perfectly suited MASH, became the theme for the movie, became the theme for the TVshow, and yeah.
There’s a rapper who cut his dick of and threw himself off a building within the last couple weeks here. He lived.
