Great, now I’m imagining a scene with that:

Sauron black speech

Twilight: What is he even saying!?

Spike: …Listens carefully It has begun…

Twilight: What? How do you know what he is saying?

Spike: I don’t know…yet, I can understand what he says…

Twilight: Well, what else is he saying!?

Spike: Listens for a little bit The East shall fall…so shall the Kingdom of Angmar rise…

Twilight: Gasps in shock

Spike: The time of Equestrians is over…The Age of the Orc has come!

Still the same point really, Gandalf would likely fall under the ring’s power at some point so it would be bad, and as long as the ring was around so is Sauron, so in a way Gandalf would become a puppet for Sauron.
Bottom line is Gandalf really couldn’t kick Sauron ass, it had to be the way it was.

Not that he’s a worse person. It’s that he has more power.
See, it’s actually explained in detail in the book, and kind of by an unrelated description in the game Jade Empire: With the kind of power the Ring can give to an Istari (Maia) like Gandalf, he could easily use it to restore peace to the land. And from there, perhaps, make sure that peace lasts by maintaining order. And then making that order firm against those who value personal freedoms–and thus tyranny.
Something like that.

Will with 1. it’s kind of a moot point, I’m not a Tolkein fanboy but the whole point of the Quest of the Ring was that as long as the ring was around then so was Sauron and Gandalf said at the start, when Frodo tried to say that Gandalf it was hinted he was a worse person to take it as he was more linkly to fall under its power then Frodo, so basic logic tells me Gandalf couldn’t kick Sauron’s ass.

I saw Tolkein Fanboys rant about how Gandalf could kick Sauron’s ass at this point because:

  1. They said that Sauron is a wimpy spirit that’s not much without his ring (Since he poured his life force into it)

  2. Gandalf managed to beat a Balrog later on in the franchise so how did he lose to a ‘wimpy spirit’ as it were?

INB4 Tolkien fanboys come onto this, ranting that Gandalf should’ve kicked his ass!
