“1. There’s virtually no significant fanon about Pinkie’s family.”

This is the part where I laugh.
Seriously though, even I was okay with them not showing up, and I’ve been attached to them for over 2 years now.

Limtestone- i’m limestone, remember? seriously you listen too much to the bronies.
Marblie- but i like the pacman reference!

Until you get official word on the reasoning, please stop BAAAAAWing about these theories.

If the staff only added Maud because they want to appease the few radical Bronies who think their head canon is more important than the show, they lost all their credibility in my eyes: Never allow the Fanboys to dictate how to run show.

Because no matter what, if they carter to the head canon fanatics they are going to lose anyway: If they had used Inkie or Blinkie the angry fanboys would complain about them being nothing like in their head canon. On the other hand, the very same people are now going to complain about retconing Pinkie Pie’s family history by adding another “Shining Armor”. So if they really wanted to get on the good side of these people they could’ve used a cousin instead.

And it’s not like that they’ve cared before: Otherwise Vinyl eyes would be red and Limestone & Marbel names in the book would’ve Inkie and Blinkie.

If that was Hasbro’s reasoning, it’s hilariously stupid because Maud herself has drab coloring and a deadpan personality (to the point of hilarity though)

And yes, Inkie and Blinkie have a small amount of fanon but there’s enough that there was a bit of gruff from the community when their official names were created for the book series. I’m sure while not all of the staff know it, a good part of them still do.

It’s easier to create a new character that has no expectations, than to introduce characters that have had years of fan community development. But they still could have given us a small non speaking cameo

  1. There’s virtually no significant fanon about Pinkie’s family.

  2. Majority of the staff is neither aware of nor cares about the fanon, however popular it may be. The few people that care can only do so much as put Lyra and Bon Bon together in one scene or something small like that, but if their top brass demands a new character they can do nothing about it.

It’s more likely that it went like this: The studio probably considered the original sisters but Hasbro deemed them too grayscale and bland to be a central character of the episode and requested a new character with slightly more interesting design so it would sell better on the slim chance they might want make a toy figure of her.

It was a compromise.

Instead of risking shattering well known fanon of Inkie and Blinkie, the staff created a new sister just so they could mold her the way they wanted. The staff get a sister for Pinkie they can use and the fans can keep their headcanon
