I don’t mind the idea of wingless dragons either, heck Spike’s already got enchanted fire and burning hands along with his normal fire breath, and his greed-growth was way too sped up even for a dragon.
I just don’t think that he will actually look like that when he truly IS an adult or young adult. I think he’s got a lot more potential then realizes if he keeps away from greed. And that may include wings, maybe, maybe not.
I don’t remember any hints like that, (care to specify?) and when he did get temporarily huge/grown-up, he still didn’t have wings.

True, but they did hint Spike might get wings in Rarity’s Hot Minute promo. Since they never showed us a dragon his age, we don’t know if they get them in his teenage years.
Either way, Spike has unusual powers and an unknown heritage. Beyond normal green fire breath, he has teleportation fire and tactile-psychokinesis(like when he burned a feather just by holding it while angry)
They both look cool though.
