The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

It’s not one of my all time favorites, but I liked Evangelion (it and TTGL are the only Super Robots shows I could really get into). There are legitimate criticisms to be made about it though, not everyone who dislikes it feels that way just because it’s depressing or it’s not a power fantasy.

Also I disagree about Rebuild, it’s different from the series but I’m still finding it interesting and enjoyable so far.

BP hating on the hardcore fans: I got into it because it was considered cult status. If it was going to only be fighting robot shit like gundam, I’d leave after the 4th episode. I’d rather see an anime that plays with the psycological department rather than a mindless fight every single episode.

evangelion isn’t about being a hero or subverting giant robot shit, all that stuff is pretty much window dressing (albeit awesome window dressing) for the psychodrama. Shinji and Asuka and nearly everyone in the cast were pretty fucked up for various reasons before the series began.

Calling shiji - the boy who saves the world multiple times & jumps into a fucking volcano completely unprompted - a gutless coward or a pussy or whatever is… just a humongous lol.

I mean I get that nerds mostly want power-fantasy, but if that’s what you want out of Evangelion I’m afraid you misunderstood from the very beginning what it was about

I like how the pony’s are people and not pony’s. Also Gummy. I like Gummy. Gummy’s got swag for days.

I don’t think that’s exactly true. It depends on the kind of person they are. Shinji was a gutless coward from the start and a massive emo to boot. I wouldn’t expect him to suddenly grow a set when facing killer aliens and the possibility of an extremely painful death just because he suddenly has a giant robot.

Nah, Zeorymer had a much more realistic hero. You give a kid all that power, you expect him to go balls-out crazy haha mad villain, not shrivel into a little ball of emo. Zeorymer is what happens when the 10 year old that watches super robot religiously gets his own hands on one.
Crawling into a ball of emo is a mutant/superhero thing, not a super robot pilot thing, not unless it’s also trying for a srsbsns war thing such as the Gundams and Ideon.

I liked the fact that it took the “being a hero sucks” route and subverted the notion of wish fulfillment in a genre that’s full of it, but I also feel like it needed some friggin’ prozac near the end.

Hated Evangelion only because of the constant angst. I thought it was cool to see a more realistic look into the whole superhero thing where the heroes were afraid of fighting ugly monsters and had flawed personalities, but this took it way beyond that and put us smack dab in the middle of Linkin Park Land.

man evangelion was the best

I can see why some people don’t like it though: the show promises fun giant robot fights and delivers a bunch of psychologically scarred individuals spiralling into depression.

Possibly the best anime I’ve ever seen, definitely the best giant robot anime (the only other anime that emotionally affected me as much was grave of the fireflies).

If you haven’t watched it, do so, but avoid the rebuild films which improve the animation but drain out all the character.

It is vastly ovverrated by its hardcore fans, but it is still a good show IMO, even if the quality dropped vastly after the first half of the series. Behind the scenes pretty much everything went wrong, and it’s frankly pretty remarkable that the show didn’t get canceled outright before it could finish.

Fuck evangelion, so freaking fucking overrated! When i finally seen this “masterpiece” i really felt trolled. Everything is idotic: plot, characters, the random biblical quotes, the cheap psychology and cheapest retoric.
Is a retard anime for retard people.

I thought that technically, there are only 3 movies and they chose to split the third one in half? I’m pretty sure they said Evangelion Q was only going to be 45 minutes long because technically it’s 3.0 part 1.
