Yes, /co/ played a large role in the early days of the fandom. That period ended sometime around the start of the second season. /mlp/ is not /co/, and does not have the same influence.

How about… bat ponies, moth ponies, fluffy ponies, AiE, PiE, a huge chunk of the write/drawfags started on 4chan. Nevermind the fact that the huge explosion of popularity in the show was done by 4chan’s /co/ board. If you were a fan of the show back in 2010, you were probably a /co/lt. People like Sethisto (Twilight’s Horadric Cube) and Capper started on 4chan?
 
Now I’m not saying /mlp/ is all sunshine and roses, but if you deny the fact that without 4chan, there wouldn’t BE a fandom? I find it unlikely.

No sorry, I refuse to acknowledge that a small portion of /mlp/ and 4chan’s userbase not being assholes means we shouldn’t generalize about all of them.
