Discord’s gray face has a bigger impact on his overall appearance than his black mane, though. Since you can’t make a human gray unless you’re doing Equestria Girls style, I can see why you’d make the hair gray and add a black accent elsewhere – which is what I think the tie is doing.
The only thing that bother me with his humanizations is either gray or partly gray hair. His canon mane is black. Not gray or half gray. He suppose to have mismatched facial hair that don’t fit to his hair on head/neck but many miss the point
