Actually the Jo guy beyond Nerf Non knows enough about MLP, and from his past comics most likely watches or at least watched the show.
I’d love to see more good natured ribbing because heavens know there are a lot of ridiculous things about us that could be parodied, but is it too much to ask for the artist to have at least a bit of knowledge?
