Well, then you may say it is actually a mutation, but even Pegasi and Unicorns were originally mutations, and now they are considered different kinds of ponies. Trough you could say the same for Milky Way\Milkmare of Trottingham, Cteno, and others. And you cannot forget Ponies can breed with dragons, hippogriffs, and other species trough magical means. And that 3 years ago, an Apple Family Member from Neighleyton, Caroline Appletees (38) and her barrel-kicking-talented husband Tobias Cunninkickell (41) have found that their blank-flanked earth-pony son, Tubby Applesting (8) had transformed into a capybara overnight. Tubby s’ hat, baseball bat, and “Neighleyton Golddusters” sports team tee-shirt being on the capybara confirmed it was indeed Tubby. the DNA test went negative, but Ms. Appletees denied the test and saw the above as proof. 2 days later, Caroline found out Tubby was actually at the home of one of the mom’s 1000 aunts; Appleby Starnell (55), who lives in Horsehigh Mountains. Appletees says: “Ah did not know ah had an auntah Starnell! Forgot ’bout her all.”

Actually fluffy ponies are not part of the MLP universe. Sure, there is Fluffle Puff, but she is one-of-a-kind and just a very fluffy but otherwise normal pony.
 
The usual definition of a “fluffy pony” is a genetically designed bio-toy for the entertainment of humans. They are about the size of a housecat and not very bright.
 
Well, that’s the commonly accepted headcanon, anyway.

Uh, the Ponies ARE all the same species.
 
Pegasi: Ponies that evolved wings, can walk on clouds, and control the weather.  
Unicorns: Ponies that evolved a horn and do magic.  
Earth Ponies: Ponies that evolved a special connection to nature and better strength. Alicorns: Enlightened Ponies that are like gods. All of them are royalty.  
Changelings: Ponies that evolved a bug-like social structure and can shapeshift.  
Glimmer Wings: Ponies that evolved magical butterfly wings with a sparkly trail.  
Night Ponies: Ponies that evolved vampire-like traits from being nocturnal and living in the cold north.  
Crystal Ponies: Ponies that evolved crystally skin, and shiny, semi-translucent, tri-colored hair.  
Fluffy Ponies: Ponies who evolved long coats of fur to cover for the winter.
 
It IS the same species. They just grew different body parts in different ways.

Not quite. Peaches have a hairy skin while nectarines are leathery smooth.

But that’s just the thing, there aren’t any different species. They’re all the same species, but they’re different cultivars, or breeds, like we say for dogs.

The way I see it, Twilight is a huge nitpicker and if anyone said something like that she wouldn’t hesitate to correct them and probably even recite the different species of peaches and/or nectarines to prove her point.

This would be a completely in character thing for Twilight to say.  
She doesn’t much care for what works in practice, only the theory.

Hardly an odd occurrence in today’s selective breeding of foodstuffs. Fun fact, Cabbage, Kale, Collard greens, Cauliflower, Romanesco, Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, Kohlrabi, Kai-lan and most likely a dozen other greens are the exact same species. They’ve just been bred in incompletely different directions so that they look nothing alike.
 
Saying a peach is the same thing as a nectarine is saying a Chihuahua is the same thing as an Irish Wolfhound. Technically correct, but practically WAY OFF.

They’re all ponies in the same way that nectarines and peaches are fruit: apples, watermelons and bananas are related too. That doesn’t make them any more similar.

Not anymore than Pegasi, Unicorns, Earth Ponies, Alicorns, Changelings, Glimmer Wings, Night Ponies, Crystal Ponies, and Fluffy Ponies are the same thing.

Nope. Peaches are fuzzy. Nectarines aren’t.

From Wikipedia: “Though fuzzy peaches and nectarines are regarded commercially as different fruits, with nectarines often erroneously believed to be a crossbreed between peaches and plums, or a “peach with a plum skin”, nectarines belong to the same species as peaches.” So sixtyfour215 is correct, and the image isn’t exactly right. Nectarines are a type of peach, but not all peaches are nectarines. It’s like saying that squares and rectangles are the same thing.
