Eh, I was referring to Hasbro aping the fandom’s idea of a humanized alternate universe of MLP and then not doing it justice, but I think Hasbro’s blacklisting of the name “Derpy” is stupid too and they should stop.
Yes, yes, we’ve heard all the excuses from the neighsayers a dozen times before. That doesn’t excuse the fact that the only way to truly fix it is to reinstate the name, if not in the merch then at least in subsequent reruns. I will accept nothing less and continue my boycott otherwise until the end of time and encourage others to follow suit.
@Niggoslav_Krawczyk
The censorship of Derpy was also DHX’s, and the HUB’s doing, as well actually according to the writer of the “Last Round-up.” It was also due to the people complained about Derpy’s portrayal in the show, and was also due to the “unfortunate implications” that Amy found out about the term “derpy.” So there were actually several reasons due to the Derpy censoring rather then just blaming Hasbro.
At least the Derpster is back in the show at least, and to be fair, we are seeing alot of merchandise (officially approved by Hasbro) for like Hot Topic, WeLoveFine, and such that are aimed at the older fans, as well as young ones.
@Beau Skunky
Somehow I really doubt that, considering they never listened/cared about the periphery fanbase before, especially when they decided to censor said fanbase’s shoutout pony.
I’m honestly not that bothered by E.G., in fact I found the movie enjoyable. It wasn’t “teh best episode evar!,” but I enjoyed it. I understand fans don’t like the toy designs, (I guess they are a bit to Bratz/Monster High-ish) but I recall they used to bash the pony toy designs all the time to for not being “show-accurate” enough either. So it’s nothing new.
Also, it’s been said (according to one of the people whom work on the comic) that Hasbro partly got the idea to humanize the ponies from seeing a few humanized pony fanart pics online, so hilariously/ironically the bronies are partially to blame for E.G. to.
@Beau Skunky But if it wasn’t for Hasbro there would be no Equestria Girls either.
I think it says a lot that they had to wait until they were almost dead to even consider doing such a thing. Hasbro is one of those ‘dinosaur’ companies like Montgomery Ward’s or Hostess or Woolworths that will wait after the Chapter 11 to ask for any sort of help. It kinda surprised me they even thought to ask before they had to start chopping toylines.
Someone in accounting must have pushed very hard to wake them up.
@bboifatz
I wouldn’t go that far. Also, keep in mind there wouldn’t be any MLP:FiM if Hasbro didn’t approach Lauren Faust to make it, and redesign it. She had no interest in making a MLP cartoon, until Hasbro approached her to make it. So Hasbro had something to do with it’s creation, as well. If it wasn’t for Hasbro there would be no MLP or MLP:FiM. Chill.
