The type itself is actually just good, bordering on great on the offensive side…
 
But they also tend to have absurd offensive base stats… and to add to the silliness, they have Outrage(180 BP after stab) for physical attacks, and Draco Meteor(210 BP!) for special attacks. They usually have coverage move that allow them to laugh of anything that can take their dragon moves(Fire/Ground Moves for Steel Types, the only mons that could really thwart dragons).
 
On the the defensive side, they are incredibly solid, having only one weakness that isn’t themselves: Ice. STAB Ice is insanely rare to see in high tiers(as Ice Pokemon have the games worst defensive typing, but almost all mons of the type are built to be defensive), so they usually at most have to deal with coverage Ice, which isn’t as likely to KO.
 
They boast Resistances to Electric(Great offensive type), Grass(Meh), Fire(One of the best offensive types), and Water(a massively powerful typing both in offense and defense).
 
Poison actually kinda sucks as a defensive typing unless paired with something that can help it out. Poison resist only Poison(horrendous attacking type, but Toxic Spikes absorption and toxic immunity is neat), Grass(Horrendous), Fighting(GREAT!) and Bug(Actually pretty meh outside U-Turn resist), while being weak to THE quintessential coverage move: Earthquake.
 
 
Essentially: Dragons, before the rise of fairies could essentially just jump in, and tear an opposing team to shreds unless they carried a bulky steel-type, and that only really helped against Outragers.

I’m personally impressed that they made the Fairy type weak to Steel. That was a nice touch. :D
 
But seriously, why does everyone say Dragons are borked? They have NO type effectiveness for attacks on ANYTHING but Dragon, and they have decent defense buffs but nowhere near as much as Steel or Poison.

Well, there is one unconfirmed rumor that it’s pure fairy type.

It’s about time something was done about those broken Dragon-type Pokemon :)

From what I have read, Clefairy (the ‘Fairy’ Pokémon) is still Normal type.

Fairy type is going to be awesome

Though what I was alluding to was pokemon based on mythological fairies. SMT is more so true to the legend while pokemon a greater spin on the mythology. Imo

Eeyup. I’m glad the fairies came along. I also like that the fairy type gives Gamefreak and Creatures INC more incentive to make more mythological pokemon :D

Dragons were the gods in the Pokemon universe. So yeah.

And with that many pokemon fans denounced fairy type as girly and cringed at the idea of tinkerbell beat their oh so manly dragons :P
