Bad End AU: Just like your father.
Another kind of dark post for the Bad End AU, starring Mal! I think that the family i draw about the most for this AU is Rarity x Tirek haha. Don’t worry, i’ll post something wholesome soon : D-
Little Maleficent Onyx would often be described as a miniature version of her mother. With her ivory upper coat, deep blue eyes, and full crown of curls, it scarcely mattered that she was a centaur hybrid. Fair Rarity loved to parade her daughter around the castle halls with her head high. They were the perfect picture of grace and beauty, so much so that the inhabitants of Canterlot could almost forget the shadow the young princess’ father cast upon her. Not only did it seem that young Mal had not inherited her father’s dark magic, but it seemed she had none at all, whereas her elder brothers held the magic of unicorns. This didn’t faze her, however. Mal adored her father and the way he treated her as his spoiled little princess.Even so, Mal could hear the whispers around the halls. She heard the stories and felt she had no choice but to believe them when she looked up at the great stained-glass window resting above her father’s throne. An image of Tirek with blazing yellow eyes towering over the ponies bowing below him, their eyes dull and bodies weak. Although she loved him so much, she found this image frightening. This wasn’t really an issue at her young age, as many ponies–nobles and servants alike– gushed over her elegance and poise, praising her as being “just like her mother,” Although she took these compliments gracefully, Mal wanted to beam with joy when she heard those words and would do anything to maintain that appearance– even if it meant burying away the temper years of being spoiled had raised within her.The whispers grew louder in her adolescence, often coming from her peers; young ponies unable to keep quiet in their gossip or conceal the judgment and prejudice their parents passed onto them. Some ponies treated her poorly, despite her young age and innocence of her father’s crime. They held it against her even when she was too young to understand what he had done. Those harsh words and whispers came to a head on the worst day of Maleficent’s life. She had simply been trotting to her etiquette classes one morning, excited to show her friends the new bright pink bows she was sporting in her hair. On her way, she saw a noble unicorn filly in the hallway. Mal couldn’t remember how it started. Had the filly said something unsavory about her? Thrown anything at her? What she couldn’t forget was what happened next. Her face grew red with fury, heat building up within her as her very blood seemed to boil. Her eyes grew wide and her horns emanated energy unlike anything her peers had ever seen. Mal felt as though she had become a passenger in her own body, out of control but along for the ride. All she could do was listen to the muffled screams through the blood ringing in her ears as a blue glow clouded her vision. When she finally returned to her senses, a horrifying sight lay before her. Her peers surrounded the filly, contorted in pain on the floor. Those who hadn’t gone to her aid backed away from Mal and for the first time in her life, she saw others look at her with fear in their eyes. What happened? What had she done? She backed up until her haunches touched a wall as her heart pounded, and she sank to the floor. She couldn’t turn her gaze away from the filly on the floor, unable to move or speak until the unicorn looked straight at her. She gasped softly and whispered, “You’re a monster… Just… Like your father.” No. No! No no no, it couldn’t be! She was Maleficent Onyx, beautiful and delicate. Elegant and poised, just like her mother. Just like Rarity. Not like her father, the tyrant stained in the glass window… and stained into her very blood. As Mal grew lightheaded, everything else went by in a blur of light and sound. It wasn’t until later that Mal learned what had happened. It was her father’s magic, she had drained the filly of her magic. The magic was swiftly returned, but the damage had been done. The unicorn’s family soon left Canterlot, and Rarity spent moons conducting damage control to repair her image. While Rarity may have been able to fix how ponies saw her, nopony could fix the way Mal now saw herself. She knew now that she did hold her father’s darkness within her. She would never be able to be just like Rarity, forever generous and radiant in her every action. Mal remained remorseful over the events of that day, the trauma left her unable to place a name or even a face to that noble unicorn. All that remained was the broken image of who she used to be– or who she thought she was.-
