I hear it’s possible the show might go on another two seasons, we don’t know for sure though. 8 Seasons is still pretty impressive though, Nick’s TMNT reboot didn’t even last that long.

Yes,this is pretty much correct.
We also had a group of people that waited for the first season to end, so they could finally leave the fandom, which would result in nobody staying in the end.
Lauren Faust leaving the show was the first. There were so many cries of “the show will be ruined forever” over the S1/S2 hiatus. Or concern. (I don’t know, with text being text it’s hard to tell.)
The next was the Derpocalypse, and then the third was the Canterlot Wedding, with Princess Cadance and Shining Armor out of nowhere. Then Princess Twilight, and then EqG.
Unless you are counting “Season 2 Luna is different!” and “Canterlot Wedding ruins Twilight’s character!”. I don’t know many people who share those opinions.
That’s been over for a little while now.
Everybody’s focus is on how great this season was getting plus Weird AL Yankovic’s guest appearance on the next episode.
I guess you no longer got a reason to be here.

God, it reminds me when people were bitching about David Tennant after he left the show and saying that “Matt Smith’s gonna ruin the show forever!”.

Though seriously, I don’t understand the few friends I have who refuse to continue after the Season 3 finale (which I’ll admit, felt rushed, a little put on, and should have been two episodes. Also one friend refuses to watch it AND continue saying ’Twilight Alicorn? Series over.”) especially considering how awesome Season 4 is turning out to be.
And all those events, the brony community still survived. We may have lost a few, but it’s still strong.

I remember the announcement and I remember the drama, but I remember that it was incredibly minor and I think largely forgotten about not too long after.
Actually, that post is the first time I thought about that since it was announced. That was just a unpopular toy concept with no (as of yet) bearing on the show. The other unpopular toy concepts have had some bearing on the show (maybe not EqG, but whatever).
By my own count, the following events all triggerend “END OF THE FANDOM” events:

13 episodes, sorry. That came somewhere mid S2, I think.

Eh, it came shortly after S2 ended and caused plenty of drama. Maybe not Derpygate levels, but still enough for me to remember it (probably as it was the only semi-official “new” thing out there for a while).
