It’s probably something to replace, but it was also said that MYM will be on television so it would go back to Discovery so everything would be sorted.

it’s just that there are things they can use more easily and others they can’t, G.M. Berrow said at an event that Discovery charges fees to, for example, have Twilight in the series (Spike, I don’t know because he’s a G1 character).
and the source is on Equestria daily, and this does not affect the comics or the film having references to G4

Do we have a source for that? Also consider:
  • The Tree of Harmony cameoed in A New Generation, different appearance and location.
  • G5 Spike is Dragon Lord, so why were they able to use that G4 name?
  • The Together Trees lack Elements, and behave differently.
It sounds like rather than retconning the Tree of Harmony, Together Trees are merely substituting for them. This is why we need a source to get the full context and tell how at face we should take it.

There’s also the tree stopping Cozy Glow. An if you count the tree creating the Elements, add Nightmare Moon and Discord twice each, the Plunder Vines, Tirek, the Pony of Shadows, Sombra, and the trio. Total of 12 times.
It actually seems to make major villains not defeated by trees a minority.

Fun fact: both villains were defeated by the Tree of Harmony, they had to change their name because of Discovery but it’s still the same thing
