Don’t forget about the rare XXY combination. There’s also times when someone is born with XY but for whatever reason the Y fails to actually make them develop male parts. Chromosomes are a lot more complicated than what’s taught in grade schools.

Its a time skip! I just had an idea for the design I wanted to get out. It’d have been a while, and Sunny & Haven would already be married and such

Well…(nerd mode on)…🤓it’s actually about the genes and more specifically, the sex chromosomes, which in a common person (or horse) is either XX (female) or XY (male). （Some bugs are ZZ (male) and ZW (female) but that’s beside the point.）

The point is: it means that if an individual has both kinds of sex chromosomes (XY or ZW), then no matter who they reproduce with, the offsprings can be male or female. But if one has only one kind of sex chromosome (XX or ZZ), then if it mates with another individual with the same sex, the offsprings will only have one kind of sex-the parents’ sex.

And being intersex means that there are organs or characteristics from both sexes (which is good), but eventually what matters is the genes within. According to what we know Sunny was born a female, and has XX chromosomes, but even if alicorn powers come and give her magical organs and extra abilities, her genes are likely to stay the same. Not to mention X and Y chromosomes are nothing alike. Although they share some Homologous segments and control Some similar things, they also control lots of different things and changing one into the other can result in unknown effects.(fun fact, YY usually results in death.)

Also, having a completely new sex chromosome doesn’t mean you get both genders.(more X means more feminine, more Y means more masculine) Having a Y makes an individual male, period, no matter what the other genes say. And since the offspring of Sunny and Queen Haven(who is XX female)is a male, it means that there are Y chromosomes in Sunny which would give her full male characteristics over time, which I don’t think will happen.

…(nerd mode off)😔…sorry about that ramble, let’s just say that alicornification did give her new genes, since alicorns grow taller than the average pony, age slower and develop better. It could just be on that fresh chromosome that the crystals designed for the new carrier of harmony that is “one size fits all”, and since she was originally a female she will not change completely due to her body being already matured.
