Same but with writing. I’ve learned a painful less that you have to be prepared to scrap ideas you’ve worked through sometimes, even if you’re retooling something for the better. It’s hard to discard something you already worked on, you created that thing and you wanna hold onto it because it means something to you and those headaches discourage and demotivate you.

Focus is also a major concern, it’s very easy to get distracted so having techniques to stay on track helps a lot. I’ve been trying to implement a modified pomodoro method and have gotten into the habit of listening hours-long videos/songs binaural beats as they solve my problem of hating silence when I work but also aren’t overly distracting so I have to stop and change to another song. I’ve actually found going for a run and meditation afterwards is a good way to put focus on where it needs to be.

I don’t wanna take this too off topic, so I’ll just say that having the right mindset is important in getting things done, and on that night I might recommend Better Than Yesterday’s videos for ways to get into that mindset.

yep, I know how you feel, I’ve been working on redesigning some of my ocs, and boy it sure costs me a few headaches, however, me listening to some music help me through most of it.

Indeed, you’re right. I struggle with that every single day, so it’s only natural I forget it. Part of being motivated involves not just having the mental and physical energy to do your thing (seriously, get a good night sleep and stay hydrated), but also having a clear goal in mind and a system to achieve that goal; a goal helps you get started, a system helps you keep going.

Edit: I’m reminded of a phrase I heard sometime ago, “Something is more fun the better you are at it”. I heard it mainly in the context of mathematics which I’m currently studying, but I think it can apply to anything. You get better by doing the thing regularly and while it may seem like a slog at first, you’ll adapt to it and start having fun with it the more you know how to do something. Few things are as satisfying as figuring out that eureka moment for how something works and you have a solid idea of how to build on it.

It’s important to note that many of the talented professional artists have years of experience and dedication behind their craft that contribute to their skill. While some people are more inherently talented than others, talent can only take you so far without planning, accumulation of knowledge (business and technical skills in addition to creative skills), practice and training, mental conditioning (you deal with a lot of people who don’t understand), and a degree of luck involved. Behind that wall of ability that most people see lies layers of trials, mistakes, and frustration that are seldom seen by the public. This is true regardless of your craft, be it drawing, writing, programming, video making, or even critiquing.

It’s natural to feel inadequate and conflicted with yourself and it’s also natural to feel jealousy in others for what they have or are capable of, that feeling never really goes away whether you are a novice or an expert. It’s how you express that conflict that determines your character, and I will say that the majority of artists encouraging and sharing advice is the norm in my experience. I personally enjoy seeing people succeed, seeing that confidence gives me confidence to better myself.

Now as for the artists are aren’t so nice about it… Well, the saying “love the art, hate the artist” exists and I’ll leave it at that.

yeah, I know how lesser known artist feel when try their hard work on their idea, and more talented artists should teach others who are learning it, not make them feel inferior to their own.

Either these super talented artists to compare to people like me are just really fast (be it inherently or through practice), or they just have a ton of willpower and are very decisive. I envy these artists. It’s a good thing most of them encourage the less-talented artists (like myself) to keep going for the gold.

You i agree. Somethimes i really realizes you need to act fast when you got good ideas or unique ideas before someonelse takes it or having that same idea.

I do Source Filmmaker are from time to time, but it takes me forever to get my ideas out, and when I’m done with it I find people who did the exact same style picture getting way more notoriety than I do. It’s rather frustrating

It’s more annoying when you work on something for hours you’re proud at, upload it get a decent amount of feedback, then someone else comes up with the same idea as you and they get double or triple the amount of feedback and you’re like:

this is why no art should be any better then another,

As a person who spent hours drawing a silhouette, I feel this too.

I never met an artist who is actually boasting about his/her art works and how they look better then mine.

I get sadly very fast jealous of artist who do or did make better things then me or who are more popular and fame than me.

I hate to say this, yet a talented artist shouldn’t be boasting about their to anyone who just manage to make something with their limited art skills.
