Background Pony #4BFF
It’s Hasbro’s product line that lumps Iron Will in with the villains.

Okay, so he’s got an aggressive sales pitch and a willingness to exploit an opportunity if he sees one. He still honored his agreement when it was used against him (and refused to cheat) and came away learning something useful, which puts him slightly ahead of the Flim Flam brothers in terms of ethics.

I generally read more about bronies questioning his apparent villain status than accepting him as a villain.

I never classified Iron Will as a “villain.” I don’t get why some do that personally. He seemed like a nice guy actually, and he was something of a motivational speaker trying to help ponies. (With a money-back guarantee, that he actually holds true to.)
He’s like a cross between Tony Robbins & Mr. T.

I kinda liked the more subtle & mysterious nature of King Sombra actually. I think that somehow makes him a more unique threat, and perhaps a creepier/darker villain, because of that. (It also kinda helps keep fans from getting to attached to him, once SPOILER happens to him.)
A pretty cool comment I saw pertaining to this subject. Not written by me

“Another key thing I think people forget is he is considered a great threat but has a lack of status. Chrysalis was queen of the Changelings, Nightmare Moon was a former princess of Equestria and an alicorn, and Discord was chaos incarnate. Sombra was just a unicorn that rose to rule over a nation with an iron fist (hoof?) and became such a great threat both Celestia and Luna were needed to subdue him (not even defeat). Even with all that he still cursed his nation to remain dormant and waited for his chance to take over again. It took the combined efforts of EVERYONE if one character was missing then Sombra would have won. He even begins by eliminating Shining as a threat to ensure the main characters couldn’t delay him any longer. In the end he only lost because he was outnumbered otherwise the fear he invoked in his subjects would have prevented the Crystal Heart from working, his traps would have subdued any one else tried to claim the heart, and if Shining didn’t throw Cadence it still would have been game over. It would have ended with Spike getting impaled on crystal (go look at the episode again), the crystal ponies falling back into their depression (due to aforementioned impaling) making the heart not only in his possession but completely useless, and him taking control once again.”
sombra for most pathetic villain, even if he did get the stupid crystal heart, the combined power of the princesses and the mane 6 would’ve utterly overpowered him

I’m just hoping the King makes a reappearance. even though he’s deceased, it doesn’t necessarily mean he’s gone for good…
I don’t think Iron Will is a villain.

And my issue with Sombra isn’t that he did nothing, he just needed to do more. The heroes should have had more direct conflict with him (or maybe some henchmen?) then the bit with Shining Armor in the beginning and the end. He needed more presence is what I’m saying.
