Perhaps Opaline was filled with hopes and dreams when younger but as she grew older she became more grumpy and miserable.
And with Opaline she expected less from her as a filly but once she became an adult, Opaline was frustrated she was still clumsy and awkward.
Opalime is now bitter and desperate. And is one sided in her dream.

Nightmares usually plant a seed of negative emotions within themselves, unintentionally or otherwise.
Although, a theory I’ve devised is that Twilight studied intensely to create countermeasures and contingency plans to prevent nightmares from emerging in future alicorn generations, thanks to her comprehensive experience with nightmares in two worlds. “Ain’t nocreature got time fo’ dat.” ;3
They likely worked perfectly, but a subsequent theory is that somecreature tricked Opaline into becoming a nightmare and that they’ll pop up soon after Opaline turns good, lol.

At some point you have to ask yourself: is it better if Opaline loved Misty as a child and just started using her as a minion, or was she always treated like a slave. I don’t think there is an excuse either way.

I think Opaline treated Misty better in the past. That’s why I drew this art. Also, I like them to be good together in animation
