True. But the same is true for any indigestible (and inert) thing, even gum, because of a possibility of an intestinal blockage. Also small things that can be swallowed are a choking hazard.

What I’m trying to say is that “this will end in death” tag is really unwarranted.

Silica gel isn’t metabolized by your body, so it’ll go through it harmlessly. It’s used as an absorbent, so it’ll just absorb some of the water from the cup and nothing more. In the end you’ll drink some hot water with whatever aftertaste silica gel packets would have, which would depend on what they were used for beforehand (shoe flavored water, anyone?).
