Honestly, same here (though I don’t ship Rarity and Applejack). I think they make for a cute pair, and I can’t wait to see more of them in the special as well as the upcoming series.

Yeah, true. They both have no mother, either (AJ’s mom is dead along with her dad, and we still don’t know what happened to Sunny’s mom, as she was never shown in the flashback sequence-only her dad).

So…how is Sunny like Applejack, exactly?

I can see how Izzy is similar to Rarity (though I would say Pipp has more in common with Rarity), but AJ feels like a bit of a stretch for Sunny. After all, Sunny is very outgoing, whereas Applejack has always been pretty reserved. Also, Sunny lives in a large town, whereas Applejack lives in the country. Sunny is also the leader of the group, and the main protagonist of the show, whereas Applejack was a secondary member. Finally, AJ was very much a southern US stereotype (with her accent as well as her outfit), whereas Sunny isn’t meant to be representative of any real-life culture. So the comparison used here just feels strange to me.
