“This was my dad’s favorite spot. We’d just sit here for hours and talk about everything.”

Phil looked up at Flash as he puffed on his cigarette, then turned his attention back to the water. “You’re gonna lose that trout, anklebiter,” he said, watching as the fish in question lost interest in Flash’s bait and turned away.

“It’s not about catching fish, Phil,” Flash said, nonetheless tugging the line and trying to get the trout’s attention once more. “It’s just about the time spent together. The memories.” He sighed as the trout decided that it had other places to be and swam on. A misty look passed over his face as his eyes stared through the water, no longer truly seeing it.

Phil stared at the pegasus for a bit, then draped an arm over his shoulders and gave him a squeeze. Flash blinked away a few tears and smiled back at him. “Thanks. You always know what to say.”

“Mm-hmm,” Phillip smiled quietly, taking another drag and turning to exhale the smoke away from Flash.
The water trickled past. The wind whispered through the branches around them.

Phil decided that this was his favorite spot, too.
