There’s alot of crazy theories about old games, there was a similar one to that about “Majora’s Mask.”
Well that’s the thing about early video game stories. They’re so thin, you can claim anything and there would be an ounce of truth to it.
An alternative take on the story is that Link dies at the start of the game and the dream world is purgatory. When Link wakes the Wind Fish, Marin may or may not be in the ending because she’s the only one that accepts that the island is purgatory and is ready to move on.

Hate to spoil the game, but I always assumed the Wind Fish was some kinda deity spirit whom’s dreams could manifest into a sort’ve real dream island. So Link may or may not of ended up in that dream world somehow.
The ending does show after
Link wakes up, he sees the Windfish showing it was real, and not something he dreamed up. And the game does imply Marin becomes a seagull like her wish, so she becomes real.
That’s not a lie. The owl is making two separate statements.
Evidence of the island is not reliant on the island ever existing, and vice versa. You can draw a perfect 1:1 map of an island but that doesn’t mean the island exists/existed. Vice versa, you’re inability to draw a 1:1 map of an island doesn’t mean the island did/does not exist.
heres just one lie the owl told. He tells Link at one point “there’s no way to know if this island is real or not” them later says “The island is fake and will vanish when you wake up” Now to me thats having the owl lie to Link when he makes the first statement.
How was he “lying?” And personally I thought the owl was cool.
“Link’s Awakening” is one of my favorite Zeldas too. One thing people don’t give the game credit for is, it was one of the first Zeldas with a progressing storyline, with events like an RPG.
“A Link to the Past” had a plot-twist after the first few dungeons, but not really much of a storyline outside the instruction manual.
