Seemed like it was a good episode right until they tacked on the Princess bit at the end so she would exist for the summer toy line instead of waiting for the 2 part season 4 opening to do it right.
 
I guess they didn’t have a lot of choice since they chopped season 3 in half.

Except they all do these things not because it’s what get’s them paid but because they love the jobs when they get switched around it compelled them to seek fulfillment from a source that can’t deliver

Err… Sorry, that’s obviously not my biggest gripe with the episode. However, it is my biggest gripe with how the other main characters were depicted in the episode.

My biggest gripe with the episode is that it basically said destiny = job. People in real life change careers all the time because they get new opportunities, but the episode implied that your destiny is whatever you do for a paycheck.

They didn’t have much choice. Hasbro demanded they made an episode to advertise their newest toy line, they did the best they could to make it work, of course there was no way it would turn out good but you have to admit they did an excellent job making it at least look good, despite all the plotholes and inconsistencies (Apple family letting Pinkie ruin the farm, Rainbow’s destiny and special talent being suddenly a weather control etc)

And it didn’t do shit to answer them (and I’m not even talking about Twilight Sparkle becoming a princess). The whole episode was basically a deus ex machina that made no attempt at making sense.
