The reference in Question - it took a little for me to figure it out myself - is that the tied up versions are actually voodoo dolls, and since they’re tied up, the real individuals feel tied up. If you look closely they’re actually on a table in the foreground, along with the fours phones. It also explains why they have no expression. In the original movie they were wax figurines - so much so that they could melt and make the victims start to feel the sensation of melting, but here they’re actually scaled down models.
Oh well I don’t recall that happening since I’ve seen the film
