And as many people have pointed out CalArts isn’t even supposed to refer to these tropes. And I believe no one knows why people keep with using the term like that.

Yeah, as much as I miss hand-drawn cel-animation, digital can look good too if done right.
People complaining that P.L. calling it “CALARTS!” is ironic, because Lauren Faust, creator of FIM, WAS actually from CalArts.

Some people call Flash cheap also, but if done well I don’t mind at all. My love for Flash animation was rekindled ever since FIM. I was into it in high school mostly from NewGrounds, but FIM brought it back for me. <3
Yeah, people keep calling it “cheap,” but abstract can be difficult to draw, and I like subtle things like the shading in Rarity’s mane.

As for the art style, I didn’t dislike it at first nor did I hate it, but now that we got some dialogue and animation going I can say I’m totally on board.
I hope so, as I loved AOSTH as a kid. In fact, the abstract backgrounds kinda remind me of it, and other wacky classic cartoons. I know many other bronies hate the art, but it’s starting to grow on me.
Looking at this image, I can’t help, but imagine Scratch & Grounder trying to set up a trap for Dashie.
