To start, officially the series is not canceled (there is no official announcement, so whatever they say, this is not over), come on, they are still producing dolls of them.
 
Yes, right now they are very focused with Pony Life, and G5, plus other lines of toys, it is obvious that Hasbro is not just My Little Pony, if we remember correctly; However, Equestria Girls, although it is not “success” that is expected, has performed well.
 
So, until an official announcement, for my Equestria Girls it is only on hold.

Pony Life isn’t gaining any traction because the show hasn’t even aired on TV yet. It won’t air for another 2 weeks from now.
 
You can’t say that Pony Life sucks if you haven’t even watched any of the TV show yet so don’t get ahead of yourself.

Equestria Girls Fans: “Bring back Equestria Girls, Hasbro!”
 
Hasbro: “Sure, just let us add that to our already full schedule with the 4 mlp animation projects that we’re already working on which is The Pony Life animated TV series, The Pony Life stop-motion shorts for YouTube, The g5 mlp premiere movie and the g5 mlp animated TV series.”
 
Hasbro: “…Yeah, not gonna happen. We’ve already got too many animated mlp projects to do on our plate as it is. Sorry, but Equestria Girls isn’t coming back again.”
 
Also Equestria Girls is based off the g4 mlp:fim animation style and that show is already over with Season 9 so Hasbro probably doesn’t want to confuse the fim fans and have them say “Hey! Wait an minute! Equestria Girls is still being made?! Where is Fim Season 10 then Hasbro?! It’s not fair that Equestria Girls gets to keep going but mlp:fim doesn’t!” and Hasbro doesn’t want to risk angering the fim fans by brining Equestria Girls back again. Some of the fim fans STILL wants an fim Season 10 you know.
 
So you guys can clearly see all the reasons why Hasbro cancelled Equestria Girls.

not having a finale just highlights that it was cancelled and makes it feel like it just stops. which is exactly what happened holidays unwrapped wasn’t even supposed to be the season 2 finale

Maybe no finale is for the best. I doubt the team has it in them anymore and most have pobably moved on. A really bad finale is worse than no finale at all.

If the last three specials show us anything, it’s that a finale attempt would most likely be disappointing. Hell, most of EG season 2 was a sign they’re completely dry for ideas.
