Also It wasn’t just fans complaining apparently paramount was expecting a backlash from the fans just not the general audience
Well, Sonic was kinda a different special case, because even the movie producers & Sega staff (and former Sonic creators) weren’t entirely pleased either. Not to mention, only a li’l of the animation was finished, so they didn’t have to redo the whole movie.
If you go back to the original thread talking about MLP you’ll find that there were some people saying “it’ll never catch on” which is hilarious in hindsight. A handful of people having pessimistic views will not stop others from watching it and if it actually is good then they’ll give it a try regardless from recommendation. Additionally, it was a different era of animation and people were less jaded by disappointment.
Also funnily enough, it was precisely because of massive backlash that Paramount changed the style of Sonic from being uncannily creepy to looking more relatable and this may have saved the movie. So one could make the argument that being a “negative nancy” does have its perks.
Honestly, all the drama is starting to make even me not care if it’s good or bad.
It’s not the end of the world if it’s bad.
Edited
Moreso that I don’t care about it and forgot it existed until this image and the bashing of it appearing in images not related to PL.
As much as I wanna stay out of this. There is a difference between just giving “criticism,” and “bashing.”
Even MeanLucario himself said he doesn’t care for PL, and he’s tired of the bashing.
So honestly, neither side of the argument is “pure.”
@Background Pony #1419
In fairness, the respect should go both ways, (I’m afraid to say anything about PL here positive, or negative, in fear of people jumping me) if bronies back in 2011 had that attitude of judging something before seeing it, then there’d be no brony fanbase now. (Some felt “all new cartoons suck” back then too, I recall.)
Many thought the Sonic the Hedgehog movie was guaranteed to be bad, and now it’s a huge hit. So it’s understandable why some prefer to reserve their judgement, or not “judge a book by it’s cover.”

Why did you type half a page as a response? Does someone not having high expectations for a new MLP show really upset you so much that you felt this was necessary? No, opinions are not objective facts and you’re free to disagree with another’s opinion. An opinion matters more only if an individual has some authority behind it (like being an objective critic) and can back it up. I don’t think anyone in this comment section can claim that so what’s the fuss? It’s an “I say X, you say Y” situation that won’t have any resolution, particularly as you’ve made assumptions about others’ opinions without evidence.
I’ve seen differing POVs but not any actual counterarguments except “don’t knock it till you try it” (which can justify only a purely neutral view at best as it simply appeals to ignorance) and an appeal to popularity (which doesn’t matter on DB except to sort pictures). You’re free to maintain an optimistic stance towards an upcoming show and I’m free to maintain a pessimistic view. I personally think my view is more correct based on the recent history of MLP, the history of television entertainment in general, and what has been published regarding PL, but you can disregard me if you wish. What I object to is a community pressure of “I like X, Y U no like X?” which stifles what intelligent criticism there exists. A healthier attitude is to appreciate a diverse range of views in comment sections because that is what they are for.
if that’s critique then clearly the definition has changed in the last few years

what’s the point of having an opinion if it can’t be challenged? opinions aren’t objective facts you can use to hide behind as a defense mechanism, especially if you have more people who disagree with said opinion, particularly if it’s a flawed, skewered opinion based on or at least inspired by the views of one ousted toxic animator instead of actually experiencing it for yourself - we’ve been through this before in G4, book/cover and all that
saying “that’s my opinion” doesn’t shield you from a counterargument or a differing POV, unless you’re one of those hardheaded people whose opinions can’t or won’t be changed, then in which case there’s not much more we can really do here
inb4 “GRR CONSUMERISM”
yeah I at least want to know what I’m getting first before I completely write it off - if I’m served a plate of hot crap fresh off the bat like The Emoji Movie, then I know there’s no hope for it and just move on, but if I’m served something like this which yeah wasn’t as pleasant on the eyes as FiM was at first, but eventually y’know you start warming up to it a little, particularly with these posts, but you want to see it in action first in a proper episode before you can form a full-fledged POV on it
it could be great, it could be shit - we don’t know, all we know is what we’ve seen in the preview, which as we all know never trust a preview, usually it’s just a test run to see the response, it could be improved upon in the series, but again - we don’t know, we don’t know when we will know, all we have to go on are these still images which people are taking as clear and impenetrable evidence as to why it’s all gonna be shit
that’s your opinion - when you say “our” it generally means the majority of people in said party, the majority of whom clearly disagree with said opinion
now why do you think that is
people are just starting to get fed up with the repeated, stale and petty dissonance m8, and the image ratio shows it - don’t take it like we just insulted your family’s honor or something
Edited
“Our” means two or more people which is the case here. If you don’t want to be included just say “I beg to differ.” Users gave a pessimistic outlook for PL and others immediately took offense to that. There’s no law saying you have to object to every opinion you disagree with.
You’re the one trying to group everyone using “our.” I don’t even care about Pony Life, just find you guys whining about it annoying. Take it to the forums instead of gripping about it here.
@Meanlucario
@CaptainGrumpy
What makes your opinions more valid, again? Fans have pointed out quite frequently why they think the show went astray from what made it good, and these are reasonable views. Quality is not a popularity contest though if you went by that metric then the early seasons are what caused an explosion.
That’s a lie. I myself could find enjoyment out of the last seasons of the show, especially when Starlight and the Student Six were involved.
Fluttershy is in character and so is Applejack, but I refuse to believe rd, the fat piggy, was in character too
as a rd fan, it makes me quite angry to be perfectly honest
Once again: Not everybody has negative opinions about the last seasons of G4 and the existence of Pony Life. Some are perfectly fine with both!
Edited
“Our” is right, after the last seasons in G4 and what leaks have told us it’s nigh-impossible that this will turn out positively.
I think they’ll release hers tomorrow. Since before fabulous front, messy back Rarity, there was a promotional picture featuring Pinkie and her different emotions (and she got other promotional picture yesterday).

I love his “bitch glare.” That makes me a li’l more optimistic about PL, if he’s still got his sass.
