I think it’s partly to the reaction the original arts of the “Gallus abuse” trend started getting, the more people where upset the more the joke became for them.  
Also I guess Gallus is would be considered the natural target since his kind cocky (which some people would process as being an dick) and getting away with it, plus she not a girl with a cute design which is a negative for this fandom unfortunately.  
I highly doubt dstears knows about the whole Gallus abuse like a lot of targets, so when they make Gallus a target for a joke because of the reasons before it sticks out a little more.

Agree 100%. Maybe it’s fan bias but I can’t wrap my head around peoples’ fetish for depicting characters being abused, more os if they’re not villains.
