@Red-Supernova
Making free art is about inspiration and fun. If those are gone, the artist can’t really help it. Just because you think the show hasn’t declined, doesn’t mean everyone should feels the same.
@Red-Supernova
The series went from Father Knows Beast where Twilight and Spike’s mother son dynamic was pushed, and then just a few episodes later we got Sparkle’s Seven which insisted that Spike saw himself as Twilight’s sibling. I think it should be obvious which version the artist prefers.
They also described the rest of S9 as “not very inspiring.”
If the show isn’t producing good episodes, then there’s a lot less to draw inspiration from.
The show’s decline wasn’t the only reason they quit, but it was a factor. How big a factor? I’m not sure.
Motivation can be lost for a variety of reasons, such as hardships, or changes in life, or just change in preference. People change interests, or just move on. I wouldn’t accuse them of giving excuses.
@Mister Cliff
They said it was mainly due to loss in motivation. They cited Season 9 (and presumably Sparkle’s Seven in particularly) for ultimately killing their motivation.

If you’re interested in the direction the comic is heading, MamaTwilightSparkle recently opened their asks back up, and they’ve already revealed key plot points and character revelations that would’ve happened. Don’t get too excited though, they’ve already stated the comic will not be continuing from where it left off.
@MamasBabyDragon
I wouldn’t go so far as to say she’s abusing him either. I don’t think a 14 year old has the capacity to deal with the responsibilities of being a parent (or parent figure) or the demands that come with it. If Twilight didn’t screw up or make mistakes when it comes to raising Spike, I’d be incredibly shocked.
@SPB2016
Sure, Shining Armor may have enforced the idea that dragons are bad, but the specific way Spike punishes Smarty Pants is somewhat indicative of how Twilight has punished Spike. She’s yelled at him many times throughout this comic. Spike’s young, so he may not always realize why he’s being punished. To say Twilight is abusing him is a stretch, but she has been known to be harsh, and in fact, her worst is yet to come.
I don’t think this is just because of Twilight’s punishments, I think Shining’s treatment of Spike until recently has had an influence on the young one.
I don’t mean to sound close minded but I wish other people would feel the same. Still, this is upsetting.

I don’t think the show declined at all and why can’t Spike see Twilight as his mother and sibling at the same time?

But why does Season 9 clash with their canon?
Loss of inspiration is a valid right reason, try to run a blog without it.
So they’re quitting because Season 9 clashed with their fanon? That’s a lame excuse.

Oh shit, they’re discontinuing the comic? Why’s that?
