The reason for that is that you need a minimum of 65 episodes for syndication (13 weeks with a different episode every weekday, so it cycles only four times in a year). From what I understand, the plan was always to make it to 65 episodes then end it if the show wasn’t a big enough success, meaning they could make money back through syndication. But as we all know, it’s been an enormous success, so they can justify investing in further episodes.

That’d mean less episodes… If it bothers you that much why not just put half of season 4 in your S3 folder and count S4 as 13 episodes.

26+26+13 = 65, which is the magic number of episodes when it comes to kids TV syndication. Having the first three seasons come out that way is neatly arranged for that purpose.
